Prototype Devlog #1
What is this game about
In short, the core idea here is to play a healer during a raid encounter in an MMORPG. As healing is not only looking at healthbars but also dodging the boss’s spells and for this, the screen is divided in two main parts:
- The raid healbars
- Your character and its environment
There are a few other informations on-screen such as DPS/Healing meters or the boss next spells which can give useful information about the current fight.
As a secondary idea, you would be managing your raid roster by swapping people in and out of your raid roster (depending on encounters or the characters you feel are strongest). However I’m not there yet so the actual details will have to wait.
Progress
Currently the game is very much in a prototype phase. During the last week, I have added
- Tooltips (not as detailed as I want but it’s a start)
- Healing preview (show an hp estimation when a raider will receive a heal)
- Healing and DPS Meters
- Visible Boss Timers
- A Druid class (based around healing over time)
- A Paladin class (based around the idea of an helping warrior)
What comes next
As I am working alone on this project, it will probably take a while to get to an interesting and enjoyable point. For now, I am targeting the end of June to get a bit of everything I want in the game to have a proper demo ready which hopefully will be more enjoyable than the current state.
For the next week, I will be working on adding a priest class and reworking the boss system to simplify adding new bosses as the current version is a bit rigid.
